Hospitals across the area are seeing a record number of COVID patients. As hospitals become increasingly busy, some readers asked the Kansas City Star if patients are coming to the hospitals with COVID or if they are getting the virus while hospitalized for another reason.

The short of it: hospital beds are filling up around Kansas City because people are being admitted to the hospital with COVID-19 due to the high rate of community spread.

The Kansas City Star talked to Dr. Sarah Boyd, infectious disease physician on Saint Luke's COVID-19 Response Team, to learn more about what local hospitals are seeing and what doctors want people to know amid the surge.
