Saint Luke’s Health System announced today it will close two Saint Luke’s Community Hospital locations in Overland Park in order to streamline services and provide quick access to high-quality emergency care where there is the greatest patient demand.

“Overall, our Community Hospital model has performed remarkably well, and has allowed us to effectively expand access in a critical segment of our market,” said Bobby Olm-Shipman, Saint Luke’s South and East Region CEO. “However, two of our locations have seen lower patient volumes since opening, and as we look at ways to provide care while operating as efficiently as possible during this challenging time, we have made the decision to close these two locations.”

The two locations set to close on December 30, 2020, are the Saint Luke’s Community Hospitals in Overland Park at 75th Street and Metcalf Ave. and 159th Street and 69 Hwy. Impacted employees at these locations will be eligible to apply for other open positions within the health system.

Saint Luke’s introduced the Community Hospital model in 2018, offering patients access to inpatient and emergency care close to home. Designed to help combat emergency room overcrowding and long wait times affecting hospitals in Kansas City and across the country, Saint Luke’s Community Hospitals allow patients to be seen quickly, assessed, and treated by experienced emergency medicine physicians, often with a door-to-doctor time of less than 10 minutes.

“Our community hospitals have been incredibly well-received by patients,” said Olm-Shipman. “Though two locations are closing—and may be utilized as sites for future service offerings—the Community Hospital model is successful and here to stay.”

After December 30, patients will still be able to access care at the following Saint Luke’s Community Hospital locations:

  • Leawood – 132nd Street and State Line Road
  • The Legends in Kansas City, Kansas
  • Olathe – 135th Street and Black Bob Road
  • Roeland Park – Johnson Drive and Roe Ave.
  • Shawnee – Shawnee Mission Parkway and Lackman Road
