Job Description​

This unit will assist with monitoring all of our Labor and Delivery patients at various Saint Luke’s locations in and around the KC area from our tech center in Lee’s Summit, MO.  You will be responsible for providing tele-nursing care to a diverse population of patients across multiple L&D Units. You will use your Labor and Delivery nursing experience to be a resource for our bedside nurses. This will allow you to provide proactive care and partner with nurses in brand new way of patient care. Help our bedside team provide care by understanding the big picture, provide overall assessment, perform as a mentor, leader, and knowledge expert for the nurses at the bedside.

As a member of this collaborative care team you will be responsible for patient advocacy, prevention, telecommunication, proactive continuous monitoring, evidenced-based care, clinical decision support and humane compassionate and ethical care. You will use intelligent software to partner with bedside staff to address any concerns or changes in assigned patient’s condition. You will identify early signs that there might be an issue, address it, and reduce complications in this population.

Our patients now have an extra team member watching over them and their new family members via this virtual team. This is an innovative way Saint Luke’s is using telehealth to improve patient care and patient outcomes. We are looking for experienced Labor and Delivery Nurses to join this team and help Saint Luke’s in leading the way in Labor and Delivery care!


  • Functions independently and accountable for utilizing the nursing process. Demonstrates increasing discriminatory judgment in interpreting data and prioritizes appropriately.
  • Initiates actions to improve nursing practice and patient care and unit processes.
  • Serves as a day to day resource to colleagues at unit and department levels.
  • Delegates tasks appropriately.
  • Assumes preceptor responsibilities as needed.
  • Utilizes appropriate hospital resources. 
  • Monitoring intelligent software and vitals for changes and trends or patient condition.
  • Good communication skills in tense situations.
  • Have years of experience to understand what they are looking for in trending for this population.
  • Partnering with bedside team to monitor all assigned patients.
  • Early detection of changes or possible problems in this population.
  • Notifying bedside team of possible issues and assisting them in activating resources needed to address issues.
  • Another set of eyes and ears monitoring this population with an additional piece of intelligent software.
  • Identify early signs to reduce complications.
