Job Description​

The Opportunity: 


Saint Luke’s Health System is seeking a Drug Diversion Program Director to oversee the management and daily operation for the Health System Drug Diversion Education, Prevention, Detection, and Response Program.  

Through the development, implementation, and oversight of diversion activities, this role will create standardized processes and procedures to eliminate risks for drug diversion and design training to assist with prevention, detection, and response to drug diversion.  

The Drug Diversion Program Director will have system visibility and will work with leaders and staff within various departments across the system. The Work: 

  • Responsible for program development and implementation  

  • Manages routine surveillance and investigations 

  • Designs and implements a system-wide diversion prevention program, including: infrastructure, standardization of policies and protocols, and governance 

  • Establishes and contributes to the achievement of system and entity goals and objectives 

  • Develops system-wide education about drug diversion and prevention strategies  

  • Collaborates with providers (e.g. anesthesia), nurses, pharmacy, risk management, human resources, and system leadership with development of up-to-date drug handling, diversion prevention, detection, and reporting policies and procedures 

  • Serves as a point of contact when potential diversion is identified, or evidence leads to suspicion of diversion 

  • Deploys to locations (hospitals, clinics, etc.) for drug diversion and DEA compliance matters, as necessary 

  • Supports the Diversion Response Team in the investigation of suspected drug diversion incidents 

  • Monitors controlled substance handling processes and audits for compliance with current policies and procedures 

  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant DEA, FDA, Department of Health, Boards of Pharmacy, Nursing, and Medicine, the Joint Commission (TJC), and EPA regulations related to controlled substance management and diversion 

  • Collects, analyzes, and trends diversion-related data from across the institution. 

  • Analyzes data regarding controlled medications, high-cost medications, and other medications that have an appeal for diversion 

  • Familiarity with TJC Medication Management Standard; the CMS Conditions of Participation; the DEA, BNDD, FDA, and EPA regulations; federal and state medication handling and controlled substances regulations suggested 


We are seeking a professional who has experience is starting and developing programs. Experience in conducting drug diversion investigations, interviewing witnesses, and investigative report processing is preferred. To be successful in this role, you will need to be a self-starter who is resilient, data driven, passionate about driving change and the change management process, and team oriented. 

A registered nurse or clinical background is preferred. A Master's Degree is Preferred.
