A Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant is developing skills in the clinical setting. This COTA will assist in completion of patient treatment programs as planned and directed by the registered Occupational Therapist through the use of exercise and functional activities. Referral of the patient by a physician and evaluation by the OTR are required prior to COTA involvement with the patient. The COTA will report information to the supervising OTR and keep accurate progress notes in the patients medical record. May also participate in a rotation system for specialties of services. At Hedrick Medical Center and Wright Memorial Hospital, responsibilities include directing the Swing Bed activities program for swing bed patients.
