The Director Perinatal Safety Program is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring a system-wide quality improvement program for perinatal care. This leader will partner with the OB-GYN and Infant Service Line Quality Analyst to review perinatal safety data, identify opportunities for improvements, and align with nursing and medical staff in coordinating performance improvement within Saint Luke’s Health System. The Director Perinatal Safety Program will be a system leader within the OB-GYN and Infant Service Line, reporting directly to the VP Clinical Service Lines for SLHS and will participate in program planning and development with system leadership and physician partners. This leader will partner with nursing and medical staff to ensure compliance with state and national guidelines and standards in the care for OB patient population including The Joint Commission’s Perinatal Care Certification. They will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams regarding all aspects of care for patients within the program and serve as a liaison between the system program, physicians, and other care providers. Additional duties include performance improvement data collection and review and trending of quality metrics. This person Acts as a resource facilitating staff development and working on special projects.
Five years nursing experience in obstetrics with demonstrated competence in obstetric nursing practice required. NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring or equivalent certificate must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
Serves as a safety champion who implements and supports performance improvement, safety, and loss prevention initiatives.
Monitors compliance with state and national guidelines and standards in the care for OB patient population.
Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates readiness for OB Safety certifications including the maintenance of programmatic requirements outlined by The Joint Commission.
Serves as a patient safety advocate and clinical role model in obstetrics:
Keeps abreast of changing national standards of clinical practice and safety science literature. Disseminates pertinent safety- and specialty related information.
Participates in patient safety or administrative walk rounds.
Presents patient and staff safety concerns to appropriate clinical forums.
Participates in and contributes to departmental quality performance review activities.
Provides daily support, real-time review of patient care, monitoring of clinical outcomes, and patient advocacy.
Contributes to EFM strip reviews.
Develop a process to monitor quality data and drive improvement based on opportunities identified at a micro and macro level.
Encourages staff to identify and report adverse events and near-misses and assists & supports the team with disclosure when an adverse event occurs.
Performs collaborative RCAs & reviews of adverse occurrences and near-misses.
Maintains a database of records reviewed, issues identified, and plans of correction.
Coordinates briefing, debriefing, and analysis of selected charts with healthcare team members.
Assesses the documentation of charts reviewed and provides feedback to clinicians.
Collaborates with OB educators on interdisciplinary communication and education, incorporating findings into educational efforts.
